Hands on Cooking Classes in the Huon Valley - Tasmania
Florian Cottage
Florian Cottage offers intimate, hands-on cooking classes and culinary workshops in the Huon Valley, Tasmania, just a short drive from Hobart. Learn practical cooking skills, make food from scratch and enjoy seasonal Tasmanian produce in a beautiful farmhouse setting overlooking the Huon River.
Set amongst perennial gardens overlooking the Huon River, the farmhouse cottage provides a relaxed rural setting for small, hands-on culinary workshops hosted by qualified Chef Sofia.
With just 2–4 participants per class, each workshop is intimate and highly personalised. There is plenty of opportunity to get involved, ask questions, learn new techniques and enjoy the process of preparing and sharing food together.
It is a place where a passion for cooking, sharing and tasty food comes together.
Cooking that feels like home
The cooking at Florian Cottage is about bringing food back to its essence — simple, generous and delicious.
Workshops are guided by the seasons and inspired by produce that is as local as possible. Techniques are unfussy and approachable, with an emphasis on making food from scratch and understanding how simple ingredients can be transformed into something wonderful.
Rather than simply following a recipe, you’ll learn the skills and principles behind the dishes, giving you the confidence to take what you’ve learnt home and make it your own.
Share, learn and create
My desire is to share what I have been taught and learnt along the way — the techniques, knowledge and little insights that make cooking such a rewarding part of everyday life.
Florian Cottage is a place to cook together, enjoy the gardens and share a meal in a beautiful rural setting.
Come with a passion for food, leave with new skills, inspiration and the confidence to create culinary delights at home.
Testimonials
I loved Sofia’s sourdough class. We actually made the sourdough ourselves rather than just watching a demonstration.
The small group size ,meant that we could really learn and understand the process. Sofia was really generous with her knowledge and answered all of our questions.
Lunch and the stunning garden surrounds are also worth mentioning. I’d definitely recommend her classes

I attended a culinary workshop with Sofia, she generously shared her recipes, along with practical tips and advice. She has a light, happy easy going way and is a kitchen wizz.
The workshop was hands on, and with her extensive knowledge and teaching style, Sofia was able to easily pass on her skills.
A fun day out with the bonus of learning new recipes, kitchen ideas and skills. I will definitely attend another workshop

My friend and I attended a workshop with Sofia to learn how to make sourdough bread. Sofia is a great teacher and the best part is that it is a very hands-on experience.
We were shown all the different stages of preparing sourdough and we were given notes to refer to. We tasted the baked sourdough and both took home a lovely sourdough loaf.
Sofia was more than willing to answer all of our questions to help us make sourdough in our home kitchen
