Come and spend a little time at Florian Cottage
Florian cottage is a farmhouse kitchen, settled in a rural setting of the Huon Valley. The gardens surrounding the cottage change with the seasons, just as the ingredients in the cottage kitchen do. Rambling roses, fragrant Daphne, daffodils, elderflowers and nasturtiums are just a few of the blooms around the cottage.
The dishes we will prepare together will be shared under the pergola that overlooks the Huon River and across to the Hartz Mountains.
From my kitchen to yours
Over the years, I have been fortunate to learn from wonderful cooks, generous teachers and masterful chefs. I’ve gathered recipes, techniques, traditions and little gems of knowledge along the way, and I love nothing more than passing them on.
My desire is that you leave Florian Cottage with more than something you have cooked. I hope to share with you a deeper understanding of how food comes together — how to work with the seasons, trust your senses, make the most of what you have and leave with the confidence to prepare a recipe in your kitchen, and trust that you can make it your own.
The best cooking isn’t always about following a recipe precisely, it’s about understanding when the onions are ready, reading your bread dough, picking the herbs you enjoy from the garden, tasting as you go, understanding how and when to season your food, and most importantly enjoying what you have created.
Food that feels like home
The cooking at Florian Cottage is uncomplicated, generous and full of flavour.
It’s about using ingredient that are in season. Wherever possible, we will use local ingredients and prepare everything from scratch, sharing techniques that are practical, unfussy, and most importantly can be utilised in your home kitchen to aid you with your future culinary ventures.
There’s no need for complicated equipment or elaborate recipes. Just good food, good ingredients and a few simple techniques that can make all the difference
